Description
A group of two stags standing by tree stumps on a rocky base with foliage.
The rare porcelain of Würzburg was produced for a short period by Johann Caspar Geyger under the privilege of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, Adam Friedrich von Seinshaeim. The detailed moulding and finely extruded foliage is typical of this factory.

Siegfried Ducret, Würzburger Porzellan, no 103, for a boar, the base with similar shredded clay and nos 104 ad 105 for a bear on a similar base; also a bear sold at Sotheby’s, 4 March 1986, lot 132 with similar problems of firing. The underside of the base is similar to pieces illustrated in Hans-Peter Trenschel, Würzburger Porzellan: Schätze Keramischer Kunst Aus Fränkischen Sammlungen, nos. 33 and 78
