Provenance Provenance: Althorp, Northamptonshire. Bought by John Poyntz, 5th Earl Spencer, 'The Red Earl', the table centres were photographed in use at a grand banquet in the 1880s at Dublin Castle, the Vice-Regal Lodge, when he was Viceroy of Ireland. Brought by the Earl to Althorp after 1885, and by family descent.
Description
Pair of impressive 14-branch glass and mirror Table Centres from Althorp:
the fourway glass pillars, bearing 14 'rope-twist' candle branches and linked with three glass arches surmounted by glass scrolls and trumpet vases; set into royal blue velvet-covered bases, edged with channels of mirrored flower troughs. The suite also comprises a number of circular medallions bearing the Spencer family crest.

Some parts with maker's plaque for Phillips & Pearce, 155 New Bond Street. and Victorian registration mark for March 1868. In 1870, Phillips & Pearce are listed By Appointment to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales and H.M. the King of Greece.

Perfect condition, some minor marks to mirror, and restored.
