A pair of Chinese porcelain Madame au Parasol circular plates painted in famille rose enamels, iron red, gilt and underglaze blue, with a standing lady wearing long flowing robes, beside a male attendant holding a parasol and a box and cover, in a rocky garden scene with overhanging prunus branches, within a panelled border enclosing butterflies, insects and flowers, reserved on a blue and white diaper ground.

Measures: 21.5 cm diameter, 8 ½ inches.

Circa 1730.

This rare pattern is probably the forerunner to the well-known madame au parasol design, painted in Famille rose.
