Napoleon Le Grand engraved by Auguste Boucher Desnoyers after the portrait by Gerard.
Desnoyers (1779-1857) was born before the French Revolution and worked right through the Napoleonic era. This portrait of Napoleon, after Gerard's painting of 1805 to commemorate Napoleon's coronation as Emperor, is one of his most accomplished engravings and is extraordinary for the level of detail it portrays.
