A Saint-Cloud group of children and a lion representing Africa

Offered by E & H Manners
Date & Origin 1755 to 1760, France
Dimensions
Description
20.5 cm high

This group is an accurate if slightly enlarged copy of a Meissen original of about 1750-55. Saint-Cloud is the most likely attribution as one can eliminate the other factories of the period that were capable of producing a model of this sophistication, however very little is documented on the production of Saint-Cloud of this later period.

The model must have been popular as it was also copied at Frankenthal just over the border from France.
Condition
Restauration of the left foot, fingers of right hand and the trunk of the elephant cap and top of torch restored.
£3,800.00
