Description
The great fifteenth-century Tibetan lama is depicted sitting cross-legged on a waisted lotus plinth, wearing the ‘Yellow Hat’ of the religious order he founded. He has a beautiful calm, smiling face. The hands are shown in the ‘teaching’ gesture. (One hand still holds the stem of one of the two lotus flowers which originally rose from the sockets at his elbows.)

The gilding is still very good, except on the hands and face, which probably had cold colouring at one stage. The figure is still sealed at the base with a copper plate incised with a characteristic double Vajra, as it was when dedicated.
